No referral, no problem. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy can evaluate your injury without a referral.

Here are a few of the questions patients ask us most often.
Utah allows you to see a physical therapist for an initial visit without a prescription or referral.
Your first visit includes paperwork, a thorough evaluation, answers to your questions, and a plan for moving forward.
We take virtually all insurance plans with few exceptions and can help clarify your coverage.

Your first clinic visit lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The receptionist will collect your completed forms or provide forms to complete. As a courtesy, we will call your insurance once we have the information needed to identify your coverage. If your appointment is after your insurance company’s office hours, please provide your information to our receptionist earlier so you can understand your coverage before your visit.
Your physical therapist will review your information and any information from your doctor, give you a brief clinic tour, and then begin your evaluation. Wear shorts, sweats, or other comfortable clothing. Your therapist will ask about your condition, health status, activity level, and therapy expectations, then complete an examination that may include posture, movement, coordination, strength, endurance, muscle length, palpation, neurological testing, and passive movement.
You will leave with a clearer understanding of the dysfunction, what needs to change to improve it, and a home exercise program addressing movement patterns, strength, and flexibility. Typical expectations are 6–8 sessions, depending on your goals, condition, and response to treatment.
A prescription or referral is not required to see a physical therapist in Utah for your initial visit. However, your health insurance policy may require a referral from your primary care physician for physical therapy to be financially covered. Call your insurer to verify its requirements, and our office manager can assist if needed. If you are receiving physician care for the same condition, we ask that you request a physical therapy prescription so everyone involved in your care is on the same page.
The body does not change overnight. Stretching, strengthening, and retraining can take a number of weeks. Some patients need one visit while others need several months of treatment, depending on the condition. Your physical therapist and medical doctor will recommend a plan; usually by the second treatment, your therapist can provide a good estimate of how many visits may be needed to get you back in action.
In most cases, health insurance covers treatment. Advanced Motion Physical Therapy takes virtually all insurances with few exceptions. Please speak with our office manager to clarify your individual insurance coverage, co-pay, deductible, and any other financial responsibility.
Please bring your insurance card, driver’s license, medical doctor’s referral or prescription if you have one, your calendar, completed new-patient forms, and payment for your co-pay or deductible. Wear comfortable clothing that allows the body part being examined to be exposed; shorts are best for back or lower-extremity concerns. Please arrive 15 minutes early so the front desk and your therapist can review your paperwork.
Yes. We believe you deserve and should expect to see and be treated by a licensed Physical Therapist at each visit.
Start by scheduling your first appointment. We will find out what insurance benefits are available through your insurance company or payer. After your initial evaluation, your therapist can estimate the frequency and duration of treatment required.
We do not provide transportation. Public transportation is available to get to our office.
If you hurt, we can help. Physical therapists use research and proven techniques to help prevent and treat a variety of injuries and chronic conditions. Your therapist will educate you about your condition, teach you how to manage and overcome it, map out a path to recovery, and prescribe exercises specific to the nature and severity of your condition to restore strength, improve mobility, and relieve pain.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows us to expose the body part being examined. If we are looking at your back or any joint below the back, please bring or wear shorts.
We will do everything we can to make your sessions pain-free. The old adage “no pain, no gain” is ridiculous.
Some insurance contracts require you to pay a certain amount at each visit. This amount is called a co-pay. Co-pay amounts vary by individual policy and are expected to be paid on arrival for each visit.
The deductible is the amount you are required to pay before your insurance begins payment. Deductibles vary by policy, so check with your insurance company to determine your plan coverage. If you have not met your deductible, payment is expected at each visit until it is met.
Co-insurance is the percentage of the allowed or contracted amount that your policy requires you to pay. We will bill you for your co-insurance amount once we determine what your carrier allows per visit.
Although we love children, we ask that you make other arrangements so you can get the most out of your therapy session. If no other plan can be made, please bring appropriate activities for your children while you are in therapy. Please do not bring food or drink into the clinic.
No. Insurance is not required to receive physical therapy at Advanced Motion Physical Therapy. Cash-pay options are available for patients who do not have insurance or prefer to pay directly for their care. Contact our team to learn more about cash-pay rates and payment options.
Don’t let injuries slow down your life. Our team is ready to help you get back to the activities you love.
